Choosing the Right Cycling Bicycle is not so Simple

There's no shortage of reasons why people are taking up cycling. There are those who decide to take up cycling because the price of gas is too high and the cost of maintenance on a vehicle is too high. Others choose it because riding a bike is better for the environment than travelling in a car or using public transportation.

And then there are those who choose to cycle because they simply love it. No matter what the reason is for choosing a bicycle, there are some things you should keep in mind before you decide. If you really want to choose the perfect cycling bicycle, you need to think about more than just what it looks like. This article gives you some tips and pointers to help you pick the bicycle that will be perfect for you.

We’d be lying if we tried to tell you that fashion shouldn’t play into your choice. The fact is that we all have color and style preferences. When choosing your bike you shouldn't ignore them. Using style and fashion preferences as your main criteria is silly, unless you are only getting a bike to look good. Safety and comfort should be considered first. Then, when safety and comfort have been secured, choose your favorites according to their visual appearance. The type of handlebars you choose is also important. There are many different types to choose from, each better for specific roles. Traditional handlebars that just go straight out are good for maneuvering over difficult terrain. They are also better for distributing your body weight over a larger area. For racing bikes you will want completely different handlebars, these handlebars will curve and allow you to ride your bike in a leaning position, this is to cut down on wind resistance and allow you to cycle faster. For those people who rarely use their bikes you can get away with just selecting comfortable handlebars that can be stored away easily.

Be certain to leave adequate room between yourself and your bikes crossbar. When you get a bike be sure to move the seat up a couple of inches from the crossbar. You should be able to still rest your feet flat on the floor. Each type of bike will require differing clearance amounts. As an example, with a touring bike you will only require around 1". If you are buying a mountain bike you’ll want more—three inches or so between you and the crossbar. There are a lot of criteria to use when deciding which cycling bicycle is right for you.
